Just an hour from Las Vegas sits one of our favorite dive spots — Willow Beach. It’s the kind of place where desert cliffs meet clear, cool Colorado River water, and divers can log some of the prettiest freshwater dives in the Southwest.

Why We Love It

Two States, One Dive! The Nevada–Arizona state line runs right down the middle of the river. If they’re not letting water out of the dam, you can literally dive in two states on the same tank.
Crystal-Clear Water. The sandy bottom helps keep visibility high, and the water is cool and refreshing year-round — perfect when Vegas hits triple digits.
Underwater Wildlife. Expect to see catfish, bass, carp, lake lobster (aka crawfish), and sometimes trout cruising by. Bring your camera!
Great Facilities. Picnic tables, paved access, and bathrooms make it a comfortable spot for classes or fun dives.
Easy Entry. Shore access is simple — no long hikes or rocky scrambles. Park, gear up, and walk right in.

Dive Details

Depth: Up to around 55 feet (depending on water release from Hoover Dam).
Visibility: Usually excellent for a lake/river environment.
Temperature: Cool and consistent — bring a 7mm suit or drysuit in winter months.
Fees: Located inside the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, so expect a small entrance fee (or use your All Parks Pass).

Go early to snag the best parking and beat the wind.
Bring a dive flag — it’s required in this area.
Keep an eye on dam release schedules if you plan to dive deep — currents can change fast.
Don’t forget to enjoy the view! It’s one of the most scenic spots in the region.
